Holland & Holland – Umang Hutheesing SS14 collection
London’s influential fashion and luxury leaders descended on Holland & Holland’s legendary showroom in Mayfair’s elegant Bruton Street to be dazzled by their SS14 ensemble.
This highly desirable collection is inspired by the magnificent hand skills and age old techniques perfected in the Maharaja’s Palaces of India.
This wardrobe had a distinct regal flavour as Holland & Holland collaborated with the renowned designer and Indian noble, Umang Hutheesing, (who operates from the stunning Hutheesing Haveli in Ahmedabad, Gujurat).
Incredible detail, texture and rich colour is offset with an understated European simplicity which allows the garments’ finery to be admired as much as the contemporary twists and turns – the use of patterned peacocks on cooly tailored smoking jackets a perfect foil.
In addition, beautifully cut safari wear, timeless safari jackets and gabardine collections echoed the same mix of functionality and style. Hutheesing Design’s colour palette and use of print reflected India’s eternal relationship with their animal kingdom and it’s deep and mystical roots in its culture.
Explaining the flexibility of his pieces Umang declared ‘why not wear the smoking jacket with casual jeans?’ This reinforced the feeling that the collection really was a heady mix of ancient and modern, a triumph of old and new worlds – an elegant, desirable, versatile and eminently wearable collection.
